In case you were wondering what happened to the WitE AAR I was writing, the answer is two-fold:
- I bought a new computer and didn’t transfer the saves et al from the old one.
- I started beta testing WitE 2.
And now that WitE 2 is finally released, I can tell you this much: there is no reason to go back to the original War in the East. The two are of course completely different games with completely different game engines.
War in the East 2 is available from Matrix Games, and the price tag is quite hefty, but also definitely worth it if you are into WW2 strategy gaming at all.
The game comes with three full campaigns and seven smaller scenarios. It supports single-player versus AI as well as hotseat, PBEM and play via Matrix Games servers.
There’s a lot to unpack here, but hopefully we will get a full review of the game out soon, as well as some guides to get you started with the game.
