Imperator:Rome last patch

Imperator: Rome Anniversary Patch and Invictus

Imperator: Rome finally decided it’s final patch, some four years after the last Imperator patches were planned and released. And frankly, looking at my old reviews (which likewise conincide with a four year silence on this site), the game today looks nothing like it did back then. So certainly, it has come a long way.

Any Further Updates Coming?

First off, there was a beta patch back in 2023. It remained in beta for a year, as according to the company there simply were no resources to test it on all platforms. However, there was considerable action in the modding scene. So much so, that several Paradox Strategy Streamers took it upon themselves to make the game popular again. For a while, the average player count tripled.

This added interested finally pushed Paradox into action, and they released the Anniversary Patch.

…but that is pretty much where the story ends. Now, you can check out the forum post itself for all the chances. The biggest individual chance is the fact that you can now earn achievements even when playing with mods. Besides that, it’s a couple hundred fixes to bring the game up to date.

And if you look back the the player count at present, it’s pretty clear that it has returned to numbers back before the hype. And that is probably where it will remain. That’s why we don’t expect anything else to happen with this game. Especially as Project Caesar is in the works.

Speaking of Mods – Invictus

Now, if you think the base game of Imperator:Rome is lacking in content, I suggest that you take a look at the Invictus mod. It’s basically the only thing keeping the game alive at this point. This mod adds in considerable amounts of content in the form of mission trees. But is also touches on pretty much every aspect of the base game, perfecting it to a level it should have been to begin with.

And if you don’t have the game yet, wait for the next sale to pick it up! You won’t find anything like it.
